Ramtek, Nagpur is one of the main destinations of tourist interest in the city. Ramtek- named because it was graced by the sacred feet of Lord Rama and Sita, his wife. The fame of this place of Nagpur is to a great extent owing to the myths and legends that are linked with the place. Ramtek is situated at a distance of 57 kms from the city of Nagpur in Maharashtra.

Ramtek is also known as Ramgiri, as is mentioned in the written documents of Kalidasa, a renowned poet who wrote in Sanskrit. The most significant feature of the place of Ramtek at Nagpur is the celebrations and spiritual activities that are held here on the promising occasion of Ramnavami. Such spiritual events of Ramtek are mostly centered at the temple located here called the Rama Temple.

The festival of Ramnavami forms the splendor of the area, but obviously at the Rama Temple that stands proudly atop a hill. The terrain has been mentioned as Ramgiri, in Meghdootam, one of the enthralling works of Sanskrit poet Kalidas. The Kalidas Smarak, which adorns the hill too, is worth.

In reality, Lord Rama is one of the most important characters in the era of Ramayana. Rama is supposed to have been accompanied by his wife Sita on his journey to Ramtek in Nagpur. The mythical association of the place with Rama has given Ramtek its current name.
