Located in the Navegaon area of Maharashtra, at a distance of approximately 150 km from Nagpur city, Navegaon National Park is one of the most popular forest reveres of the Vidarbha region of the state. Spread over an area of almost 135 sq km, this wildlife park comprises of a deer park, an aviary, 3 landscaped gardens and Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary.
There is an attractive Navegaon Lake which flows through the Navegaon Wildlife Park with crystal clear water. A series of cascading trails leads one to the lake, which stretches over an area of somewhere around 11 sq km. There is also a watch tower inside the wildlife park, from where tourist can get overwhelming views of the whole expanse. The ideal time to visit Navegaon National Park is during the months of April and May.
It is better to come here during the period of October to June if you are a bird lover. During this period, Navegaon Lake is crowed with huge flocks of migrating ducks, which seem to wake you up with their loud calls. In fact, the bird sanctuary at the national park is dwelling to more than half of the bird species found in Maharashtra. The flora here is mainly of the Southern mixed dry deciduous type, comprising of Teak, Haldu, Jamun, Kawat, Mahua, Ain, Bhel & Bhor trees.
You will find almost 60 percent of the bird species found in Maharashtra here itself. The main birds which you can see during your tour to thispark are - Scarlet Minivets, Paradise Fly Catchers, Kingfishers, etc, apart from a wide variety of migratory birds. You can also spot a number of wild animals at the national park, including Tigers, Panthers, Bisons, Sambars, Nilgais, Chitals, Wild boars, Sloth Bears, Wild Dogs, Langoors, etc.
