Situated at a distance of approximately 85 km from the city of Nagpur and comes under the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra, Tadoba National Park is the oldest National Park in Maharashtra. Situated away from the annoying rush of city life, in the heart of a reserved area, the national park serves as an ideal tourist spot as well as getaway destination for the people of Nagpur. The wide diversity of wild animals seen at Tadoba National Park comprise of Tigers, Panthers, Bisons, Sloth Bears, Hyenas, Jackals, Wild Dogs, Blue Bulls, Sambar, Cheetahs, Barking Deer, etc. Tadoba National Park, name after the local God, "Taru", the village chief "Taru" was killed in an epic fight with the tiger. He is worshipped by all the local villagers as the deity of "Tadoba". In 1993, it is declared as a Project Tiger reserve. Tadoba village is identified as the ‘the Jewel of Vidarbha” and the name Tadoba is derived from the local god of the residents Gond tribals.
This is considered as a wonderful site for the wild life lovers. Rich collections of flora and fauna can be seen at this park. The foremost appeals here are the lake inside the park and the rich deciduous teak forest. The lake is the natural habitat of many water birds and the many wild species
Spread in an area of 625 sq. km this national park is best habitat for many flora and fauna and it holds more than thousand species of birds, animals, insects and other life forms. Along with the main attraction the Tiger, large herds of Chitals, Sambars, Barking Deers, Chausingas can also be seen at this park. Some other tourist attractions in and around the Tadoba National Park are the Ramdegi Temple, The Mahalaxmi temple and the Sain temple at Bhadravati. Tourist can enjoy jungle safari. A 12-seater minibus is also available at Tadoba for jungle safari for the convenience of the tourists.
